2DOF motion system

It provides 2 types of movement:
1. Sway – to the left and right sides during the turning phase
2. Surge – forward/ backward during braking/ acceleration phase.The negative side is that bump and jump feeling is compromised as during bump the seat simply leans forward.
You can choose a range of different actuators. But we recommend to use 100 mm of travel and 20 kg. force actuators with the system.

3DOF motion system

It provides 3 types of movement:
1. Sway – to the left and right sides during the turning phase
2. Surge – forward/ backward during braking/ acceleration phase
3. Heave -up/ down during jumps and bumps.We have created probably the most somphisticated 3_DOF system in the market. As inspired by motorsport we have used some solutions heavily used in Formula and other high performance racing cars:
Solution No 1
In our 3 DOF motion system we have used a wishbone, exactly like the one is used in racing car suspension. It has helped us to simplify the construction of our 3 DOF system and also to have a driver seating position lower, compared to the height if used a standard – ball bearing structure below.We recommend to use 150 mm of travel and 40 kg. force actuators with the 3 DOF system.
Solution No 2
And it is used a commonly seen in motorsport part, named “rockers”. A rocker connects a shock absorber and a wishbone. In our 3 DOF motion system it is a key engineering solution as it has helped us to lower a seat to a normal height – close to the one of 2 DOF systems.

Gas springs

A very important solution we have used is gas springs. With 30 kilograms of lifting power each, they reduce load for the actuators, thus allowing them to run faster and more precisely. (note that the SCN6 load and speed curve is as follows in the picture below.
It means that when loaded 10 kilograms, the actuator will travel 100 mm/ 1 sec, and when loaded 40 kilograms it will move just 20 mm/ 1 sec – that means much less speed. And less speed means less precision and less realistic feeling. Why?
As an example, if you go over the sharp kerb and simulation software tells the actuator to travel 20 mm in 1/5 of a sec, but it can handle to make those 20 mm only in 1/2 of a second. You see the difference?
Another important reason that we use gas springs is that they help to improve actuator lifetime.

Control Unit box

Everything we engineer, we push size to the limits. Our compact powder coated control Unit box can accommodate up to 3 actuator control units. So for 4 DOF and 6 DOF applications, will have to be used another similar size, mirrored (for setup on the other side of the rim) box.

4_DOF Motion System
